The Utah Botanical Society
There are over 1,000 species of plant in the Great Basin geographic region of North America. Yet many municipalities in this region are stripped of interesting plant life, or planted with non-native, water-hungry, heat intolerant species which fail to thrive in our harsh climate.
Species native to our region are not only spectacular, they require less water, thrive in harsh conditions, and support native wildlife like sage grouse, pinyon mice, humming birds, and big horn sheep. The Utah Botanical Society’s mission is to support conservation of native flora and fauna through the use of amazing native plants for beautification of the gardens and municipalities of the Great Basin, as well as promoting the healthful use of plants in farming and food production through education and advocacy. Anyone is welcome to become a member and to help support our mission! Or you can volunteer, donate, or attend one of our many yearly events and fundraisers listed in the programs and events tabs.
