Hot Rock Penstemon

Penstemon deustus

An elegant desert Penstemon, Hot Rock is a perennial, drought tolerant and heat tolerant plant of the Plantaginaceae family. This kind of lush, showy abundance should not be possible with so little watering and care, but it is. A prolific self-seeder this plant is a food source for native bees and hummingbirds.

Soil: well-draining, neutral to alkaline, low organic matter
Sun: full
Water: every few days when first planted, then only once or twice a month after established
Blooms: May to July

Other notes:
Do not deadhead if you want it to seed.
